What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is a form of martial arts and exercise.  Movements are practiced slowly following the breath.  Slow movements help to increase strength and stamina.  Slow and controlled movements help to lessen injury while getting a workout.  What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.

What are the benefits?

Tai Chi has been called meditation in motion.  One must keep focused on what they are doing when moving slowly.  This practice puts the brain and body in a relaxed state.  When the body is relaxed it is better able to function properly.  Stress and anxiety seem to melt away as the mind becomes engrossed in the moment.

Brain function: Studies have shown daily Tai Chi practice to improve higher level brain function, improved memory and may even reduce Parkinson’s complications.

Balance: The slow motions of Tai Chi improve strength several studies have shown that those who practice Tai Chi have up to 50% less chance of falling.

Decrease arthritis pain: If you don’t use it, you lose it.  The more we move the less pain we experience.  Studies have shown that Tai Chi can help with arthritis pain in the hips and knees.  The American college of rheumatology endorses the practice

Breathing: One paramount aspect of Tai Chi is to focus on breathing while performing the movements.  This focus helps to put us in a relaxed state and helps to strengthen the lungs and cardio-respiratory system.
